World News Wednesday

I only have two things to really say about this article.

1: We need to spend more money on our education system. Our kid's deserve the best that we can give them, and looking at some schools recently, it seems as though we aren't paying them too much mind.

2: Teachers deserve to get paid more. This is so obvious. Why are actors and athletes paid so much, when we barely pay those who we expect to raise the future (at least that's what some parents think)?

...That is all.

Teachers aren't paid more because their work doesn't affect the bottom line (in the government's eyes). Athletes make millions because they bring in millions to owners. For example, when Jordan was playing basketball, any game he played in was sold out. People came just to see HIM play. So he made the company (his team owner) a lot of money and they paid him in return.

Unfortunately, the value teachers add is not as obvious in monetary ways. And trust me, I detest this argument I'm making. A family member made it to me and I was angry for a month. But now I see his point.

It's really sad, because the value teachers add is so important but people just don't see it because it's not a direct monetary value to them.

As far as ads on tests, I think that was a creative solution to a pathetic situation.

Not only is the pay low for something that requires a 4 year degree, continued education, and a bunch of hoop jumping (for teaching certificates and being "highly qualified") but the afore mentioned "hoop jumping" is horrible. So many rule and regulations on tests you have to take and trainings you have to go through just to get dirt pay for one of the most stressful jobs out there (and if you wanna argue that point just go substitute teach or something some day, kids these days are horrible with respect and common sense with parents being way too lenient and teacher expected to pick up all the slack). It is an appalling situation...

Oh and I graduated in MathEd... I would have switched once I discovered all the stuff "No Child Left Behind" changed, but by that point I was a semester away and the important thing was the degree at that point...

this reminds me of a book i read called "Jennifer Government" It was pretty good but mostly the deal was that everything and everyone was sponsored and it showed in your last name, all the kids last names were the names of the sponsors of their school, the adult took the name of their company.
